Half-day workshop.
The Chook is the world's original recycler and pest controller.
In this half-day workshop, we will share with you the basics of poultry husbandry. We will look at its housing, breed characteristics, supplementary feeding, keeping hens out of the lettuces and foxes out of the hens, managing pests and diseases in free-range flocks, rearing your own replacements, as well as integrating chickens and geese in garden and orchard management.
The format will be a combination of a PowerPoint presentation, demonstrations and an actual visit to the chook house and run at The Food Forest where you get to hold a chicken (if you want to). You will also be able to inspect the special rodent-proof chook feeder, nesting boxes, dust bathing areas, and different watering systems.
You will also see our mobile ‘chicken tractor’, a chook shed on a trailer that can be rotated around the property, including the vegetable gardens.
Once you have registered, more information about this workshop and what to bring etc, will be sent out via email closer to the event.
COVID 19
If you are unwell with flu like symptoms, we ask you to please not attend the workshop – contact us beforehand to discuss options.
